I didn’t start Mantis & Co. because the world needed another accessibility consultancy.
I started it because I’ve lived what happens when accessibility is left out, and I’ve seen what’s possible when it’s built in from the beginning.
As someone with low vision and neurodivergence, I’ve navigated systems that weren’t built with me in mind. And as someone who spent years leading inclusive design inside a Fortune 10 company, I also know how complex it can be to shift practices at scale.
Mantis & Co. came out of that tension. It is a place where lived experience and professional expertise meet. A place where we ask better questions, slow down to understand what people really need, and work toward equity, not just efficiency.
What We’ve Learned from the Gaps
I’ve worked on projects where teams were trying their best to “do accessibility right” but still fell short. Not because they didn’t care, but because the system wasn’t designed to support it. The deadlines were too tight. The tools weren’t flexible. The feedback came too late.
These patterns aren’t unique. They show up across industries. They point to a deeper truth: most teams don’t have an accessibility problem. They have a systems problem.
If accessibility is only addressed at the end, it will always be vulnerable to compromise.
Building with Disability in Mind
At Mantis & Co., we focus on designing accessibility into the way teams work, not just into the final product. That means centering disabled voices early, examining how decisions get made, and creating space for new ways of thinking.
It is not always easy. But it is the work that lasts.
We’ve seen that when accessibility becomes part of a team’s rhythm, the culture starts to shift. Conversations change. Assumptions get challenged. Solutions become more robust, more creative, and more humane.
Moving Toward Something More Sustainable
This work is about more than compliance or checklists. It is about dignity, autonomy, and belonging.
Accessibility, when practiced well, is a way of building systems that respond to the complexity of real life. It is a way to move toward design that does not just work for most people, but makes space for all of us.
That is the kind of work I want to be part of.
And that is why Mantis & Co. exists.
